What is Complex Skills Training?

Complex skills training with dogs involves teaching advanced behaviours that require multiple steps, higher levels of focus, and a deeper understanding of commands. This type of training goes beyond basic obedience and taps into a dog’s cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, and physical coordination.

Training dogs to manage their impulses and maintain focus despite distractions, which is essential for performing complex tasks reliably. Each step of the task is taught individually and then combined together to form a complete routine through the process of back chaining, encouraging the dog to think independently while still following overall guidance. Dogs must first attend one obedience session to determine if they are ready for complex skills.
