What is Structured Walking?

Structured dog walking is a method that focuses on discipline, control, and mental engagement, rather than just physical exercise. This approach involves clear rules and expectations from the handler as a leader that the dog looks to for guidance. This means having your dog walk right by your side, having structured sniffing breaks and controlled socialisation. Structured dog walking is particularly beneficial for dogs with behavioural issues like pulling, anxiety, or reactivity. Your dog struggles with proper leash etiquette if they are;

  • Pulling on the leash to get to anything they want.

  • Walking in front of you at the end of a tight leash.

  • Doesn’t respond to you when you ask them to do something

What Barkz Structured Walking Covers:

Barkz will teach you and your pup how to have them walking nicely by your side without any fuss or pulling, checking in with you and calmly following commands during the walks. You’ll practice walking with your dog under the trainer’s supervision, receiving immediate feedback and adjustments. The trainer may simulate real-world scenarios (e.g. passing other dogs, distractions) to build your confidence and your dog’s responsiveness. Barkz dog walking program includes how to:

  • Get your dog walking right by your side on a loose leash.

  • Avoid your dog cutting you off when trying to make a turn.

  • Keeping their focus on you and when to reward.

  • Prevent a distraction getting the better of your pup.

  • Have your dog sit without guidance when you stop walking.
