What is Obedience Training?

Obedience training is a process that teaches dogs to understand and follow commands, helping them develop good manners and reliable behaviour. The goal is to improve the dog’s behaviour, ensure safety, and create a strong bond between the dog and their owner. Is obedience training the program for you? It is, if your dog:

  • Doesn’t know basic commands i.e. sit, down, leave it etc.

  • Knows commands but chooses not to participate.

  • Does commands like sit, down etc. but gets up whenever they feel like it.

  • Only does commands at home or familiar places.

  • Cannot do commands when distractions are around.

Barkz will teach you a variety of obedience tips and tricks to ensure you have the knowledge and tools to confidently teach your pup how to be well-behaved and patient no matter where you are. Whether you and your pup are advanced or just getting started, Barkz has a challenge you! Barkz obedience program includes:

  • Luring dogs into basic positions such as sit, down, place etc.

  • Fading the lure and switch to commands.

  • Increasing the length at which dogs hold the commands.

  • Increasing the distance between the dog and handler during commands.

  • Increasing the level of distractions such as new environments, people, animals etc.

  • Learn over 10 different commands at different levels with just you, your pup and some delicious treats!
